About the Event
We can't wait to run this workshop, Introduction to Natural Dyeing for wool This two part workshop is beginner friendly and will guide you through each step of dyeing wool with natural pigments.
Part 1 (14th Nov) We will cover preparing your fibres for dyeing. In order to successfully dye fibres using natural pigments, it's really important to learn how to scour and mordant wool effectively. We'll cover all the basics including dye terminology and wool specific methods for fibre preparation in this hands on session so that you are ready to begin your natural dye journey.
Part 2 (20th Nov) We will cover how to successfully create a dye bath using a selection of dye plants including both seasonal fresh and dried powdered pigments. We will explore a variety of natural pigments and create samples using wool fibres to add to your sample book. This session will allow you to experiment with natural colour and various ways in which it can be applied to wool to create interesting outcomes.
All materials will be provided for both sessions and you will be given a sample book so that you can log your samples as you explore natural colour. I encourage you to bring along any wool that you would like to experiment with, but you must ensure that it is 100% natural for it to be successful. Please do feel free to bring any plants you are curious about using and any questions you'd like to ask! These will be welcoming, practical sessions for you to get involved in and explore natural dyes in an experimental manner. You will also be provided with written resources to take home so that you can continue to explore natural dyes outside of the sessions. Gloves will be provided at the sessions but please do wear clothes you don't mind getting messy or an apron if you'd prefer.'
